Sorry I haven't posted in a couple of days. It's been a crazy time and I am glad that Zenzy is still alive. She became more and more aggressive, it was so bad that she couldn't be trusted around any other dogs. She even went off on Yukon and Indra and than all of a sudden she became lethargic. She laid down flat and wouldn't move anymore. Didn't matter what kind of command I gave her, she wouldn't listen at all. She drank lots of water too. Really a lot of water, sometimes even more than 2 gallons which is very unusual for a dog and an indicator of Pyometra.
I called my parents bugging with questions like "Dad, I don't know whats going on with Zenzy. She's completely shut down today and that never happened before."
or
"Dad, I don't know whats going on with her, she's really wobbly with her hinder legs..."
or
"Mom, there is something weird going on. I can't handle Zenzy anymore. At one point she is so aggressive that even I'm concerned, than she becomes lethargic, lays down flat and won't move anymore. That's not Zenzy and I don't know what to do anymore."
and mom popped the question:
"Does she drink a lot of water?"
"Yes, why?"
"It could be Pyometra. Take her to the vet."
I had an appointment with Indra anyway so I called them and took Zenzy to the Tierklinik. I was worried, like really really worried. They took X-rays, did Ultrasound, made a Bloodtest and it turned out that it was already so bad that she had to have an emmergency surgery. They told me that I could wait one or two more days but no longer than a week. So I called mom and told her what was going on. Unfortunately the Tierklinik is so darn expensive that mom told me to bring her over and we'd take her to her vet.
The vet said to bring her in at 0900.
It was a weird feeling to get up that morning. She was laying next to me all night long and she's usually not very big on cuddling. I guess she knew that something was going on and that it was about her. I took Yukon and Indra too. I didn't want to leave them at home so I went to my parents, put Indra and Yukon in one of the outdoor dog "paddocks" (don't know how else to call it), had a coffee with mom and went to the vet. He did an ultrasound and bloodtest. It was clear, she had to have surgery.
He explained that there is a risk of her dying. It could become septic, or she could pass away from the anesthesia.
However, they took out her Uterus and I was able to pick her up around noon. I left Yukon at my parents place. He would only annoy the hell out of her and she sure couldn't need that.
My poor baby girl... even though she was literally stoned from pain-killers she was clearly in pain and didn't know how to lay down. Than she decided to go into the bed and was in heaven. She finally got the rest she needed.
It's been two days and she is doing well. Thank god my mother is such an experience dog-handler and a responsible breeder. Without her knowledge I would have never guessed what was wrong with her. I knew something was going on and would have eventually taken her to the vet but my mother led me into the right direction.
