Dear Parents

I am probably going to be stoned for this one but it's one of my pet peeves... I am going to be brutally honest and I know that lots of people won't like it.

We went to the movies tonight. The movie started 2130 and guess what, over half the audience was below the age of 10.
The movie had some pretty violent scenes and if I had kids, they would NOT watch that movie until they were 13 years old. Heck, they'd be in bed already and there is just no way that I'd drag a four year old child into the movie theater at 2130 to watch a movie that is cool for grown ups but way to inappropriate for kids under the age of 13 + years old. There is a reason why it's playing that late.

If you don't have a babysitter, STAY HOME! We pay to watch these movies and I, as well as many others are annoyed by crying infants and an audience that is crying out of fear because of all the violence. Just stay home and be a responsible parent for crying out loud.

They should be in bed by that time and don't belong in violent movies!

More people than just you have this issue! Me being one of them, and I blog about it a few times, but my favorite is this entry:

It also happened a few nights later with Hot Tub Time Machine! RIDICULOUS!

Yeah, I've been blogging a couple of times about it too. It is one of my pet peeves and I still remember the airing of the new Rambo movie. There were five year old kids in that movie. Bodyparts were flying around and they didn't care but as soon as they show some skin people go nuts...

I don't get it. Oh and for us the movies are not free, we pay five bucks per ticket, so we do pay for the movie, but still, the kids should be in bed by that time. If they have money to spend on a movie, they have money for a babysitter too. There is absolutely no excuse in my book that they bring three, four, five+ years old into violent movie at 2130.

I couldn't agree more.

I don't go to the movies often, mostly because the nearest theater is in Watertown and it's not even a particularly nice one, but when I do, I want to enjoy the movie, not listen to kids running around and people talking.

What really gets me is that a lot of people are bringing young children for whom the movie is completely inappropriate. Some people bring kids too young to even watch the movie.

When hubby and I went to see Casino Royale some time ago, a couple was in the movie theater with their BABY in a baby carrier. Of course, the loud scenes woke the baby up and we had to put up with screaming and crying. Because it didn't occur to the parents that other people might want to actually enjoy the movie and that the appropriate thing to do would be to either stay home, or at least take the baby outside when it is crying!

So our solution has been to avoid the movies and get the films when they come out on DVD or through Netflix. Why would anyone pay $8.50 a person for a movie they won't be able to enjoy because other people are being inconsiderate!
