This is the second time I am participating in the Blizzard Bloghop and boy have things changed. You can read about the first Blizzard Bloghop over here. To introduce myself: Hi, I am Sandra. 31 years old and a German Shepherd kind of person. :)
So what are the things that have actually changed?
Well, we relocated to Ft.Drum and live now in beautiful Upstate New York. Even though we have planned everything through, things certainly went wrong. I guess it comes with PCS'ing. However, as always we've digged ourselves out and live now in a wonderful small, cottage style house with handmade wooden kitchen cabinets and window-frames as well as access to a 160 acres of land which is great for our dogs. At first we thought it would be to small but amazingly it wasn't. All our furniture fit and the only thing we couldn't put completely up was the entertainment system, but that is okay with me. It looks just fine the way it is.
I am a dog lover. I love my dogs, I love working with them, living with them, they are my family and all I have while hubby is at work, staff duty or training. We are dealing with infertility and I have pretty much given up on that. It either happens or it doesn't...so I refuse to go through any lengthy unsuccessful treatment just to get my hopes up just to find out that it was another failure.... again.
However, we've recently lost one of our furry friends which really got to me. It's been rough, especially since she was one of my teenage dogs daughter. Not only that, she resembled home and once I lost her it was like losing a piece of home but I believe it was for the best. As much as I loved her, I had to let her go.
Ever since we got here I got involved with a Search&Rescue Team and found a Schutzhund Club I can train at. From time to time Chris, Jess and I get together to train. We are all military spouses but what brought us together wasn't so much the military but the dogs.
The most fun and exciting adventures I've had was going to NY City to pick up Judge with my friend B. First thing the little bugger did was giving me a hug outside the cargo building. That's how happy he was to get out of the kennel.
The other great adventure was our Christmas Adventure on Ft.Drum.
So who am I? That is a good question. I guess I am a German Citizen trying to find her place in a new country, with new friends, new experiences. I am trying to live a life outside the military, give something back to the society by becoming a Search&Rescue K9 Handler which will probably take us years to get certified but I am trying to do something to make sense of everything. To give my life a purpose and keep myself busy. Since I don't have any kids and can't quote bible verses and when I am not stuck at home I am out, training or walking the dogs.
Speaking of dogs... gotta go and let them outside. :)

My husband is a K9 Handler in the Air Force, we are stationed at Ramstein in Germany!!
We had white german shepherds when I was growing up..now I have little fur babies- a chihuahua and a mini schnauzer. Nice to find your blog
hi! I have never met a K9 Handler, can you believe that? I bet you really love what you do. We rescued a dog from from the local shelter, he is MASSIVE. His name is Rufus and they think he is part mastif part german shepherd. All I know is he is loyal, loving, and lets our kids climb all over him without flinching.
See you around!!
our homeschool group visited the police dept recently and we got to see the police work with their dog. It was amazing! I have pics on my blog. somewhere back in dec. :) enjoyed reading about your passion for dogs!
Losing a pet is so hard. It's been almost 4 years since my little doggie passed and I miss her so much still.
Sounds like you stay pretty busy. Upstate NY is pretty isn't it? I moved to NC for a few years but missed this too much so I moved back.
So sorry you lost your dog, I know its hard to loose a pet that you love, especially when they give us so much. Best of luck to you becoming a Search & Rescue K9 Handler!! :>
Thanks for stopping by and saying hello! Love that a blog hop started by an American, living in Germany has led me to a German, living in America! :>
I love the pictures of your dogs! We used to have a German Shepherd named Baron Von Wilhelm (Willie for short.) I'm definitely hoping for you to have an end to your infertility journey. I look forward to getting to know you better:-)
@Melissa: the little ones have just as much as a big heart as the big dogs.
Sometimes even more. :)
@Annie: It's nice meeting you too. I am far away from being certified in SAR but we'll get there.
Yes, I love very much what I do. There is so much we can learn from dogs, it's amazing. :)
Mastiff/Shepherd mix definitely sounds interesting. Those big guys are usually the most gentle dogs.
@Jenilee: I bet the kids had a blast, didn't they? I will check out the pics, always like seeing police dogs in action :)
@Kerri: yes it is and it won't get any easier. As for the countryside, I love Upstate New York and can't wait to see what it'll look like in Spring and Summertime. I bet it's going to be gorgeous. They keep me very busy but I like being busy. :)
@Karen: thank you. It is hard and I do miss her a lot. Thanks for the best wishes. It's going to be one heck of a journey but I do want to report and keep track about it.
Amazing how things work and people are brought together, isn't it? :)
@Alison: thank you so much. For my husband I would like to have an end to the fertility problem too. He would really like us to have kids.
Baron von Willhelm is a great name, sounds very noble. I am looking forward to get to know you better too :)
Stopping by from the blog hop! So nice to meet another milspouse blogger. I look forward to reading more about you and your adventures.
I haven't been to your blog in ages either! I didn't even know you PCS'd to Ft. Drum! And really, do PCS's EVER go as you plan? No, no they do not. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your girl. We lost our oldest dog back in June and it was awful.
Good luck in your dog handling!
Sandra.. I am sorry for your loss and yet inspired by what you're doing. How wonderful to become a rescue dog trainer.
