Dog Hair and Vacuum Cleaners

If you have one or two GSD's the choice of Vacuum Cleaners may not be so important because most Vacuum Cleaners are strong enough to put up with it. Back then we've had a Dirt Devil.
After we've added a third dog, you could tell that the Dirt Devil lost it's suction, even if you cleaned it regularly, it just wasn't strong enough. We then got a Bissel. The Bissel lasted maybe two months.
We then got a Windtunnel. It didn't last a week. After going through three Vacuum Cleaners within half a year we decided to suck it up and got a Dyson.

So far, the Dyson outlives them all, however I can tell that it is loosing it's suction. Furthermore it doesn't work as well on Hardwood Floors as it advertises. Most of the time it is blowing the dog hair away instead of sucking it in. So I sweep through the house, pick up the dog hair and then vaccum clean through it before I mop the floor.

It is a daily battle against dog hair and the question which vacuum cleaner works best with four dogs is an important one because you don't want to end up buying a new one, almost on a monthly basis.

Honestly? All these companies should pay me for testing their vacuum cleaners. If a vacuum cleaner lasts longer than three months in this household, it's worthy to be put on the market.

I've heard the Dyson was better on carpet. Have you tried a Roomba? They're robot vacuums that you can set - and come with one for pet hair. I just bought one and people I know who have them say they work well. You still need to do some cleaning but it helps keep the hair balls from taking over! (Bought mine at Costco but don't know if you have that store down there.)

I am not even sure if that one is strong enough to put up with all the dog hair. I'm thinking about getting a Shop Vac. A friend of mine has it and is pretty pleased with it so far.
